Grading & Report Cards
HISD is uses a grading system with six-week grading periods for all schools, resulting in six report cards sent to parents each year. Report cards and progress reports are also available online through the HISD Connect Parent Portal.
Grading scale
HISD uses the following grading scale for academic subjects and conduct:
| Academic Subjects | Conduct |
|---|
| 90–100 = Excellent | E = Excellent |
| 80–89 = Good; above average | S = Satisfactory |
| 75–79 = Satisfactory; average | P = Poor; below average |
| 70–74 = Passing; below average | U = Unsatisfactory |
| Below 70 = Unsatisfactory; failing |
Report cards and progress reports
- Report cards are issued at the end of each six-week grading period.
- Progress reports are provided at the midpoint of each grading period, and parents are notified if a student's grade falls below a 70 average or drops significantly.
- Parents are encouraged to sign and return progress reports.
- Parents can access grades and attendance information through the HISD Connect Parent Portal or PowerSchool app.
Important notes
To earn credit for a course, students need an average grade of 70 or better. Promotion standards typically consider classroom grades and a local or state test. Students with a grade below 70 in an academic course may be ineligible for extracurricular activities due to the "no pass/no play" rule.
