Translation of SIP/Translation of various languages:
Title I schools must have the entire School Improvement Plan translated into the language(s) of parents of enrolled students. Translated School Improvement Plans must be placed in the campus’s Title I bin as well as made available in the front office. Although it is “best practice” to have the SIP’s available in all languages (as spoken by the parents represented at your campus), the External Funding Department highly suggests that where there is at least 10% of any parent population who speak such language(s), the document must be translated into those languages.
Purpose of the Title I, Part A Program:
The purpose of Title I, Part A is to ensure that all children, particularly low-achieving children in the highest-poverty schools, have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and State academic assessments.
ESSA divides Title I into five parts:
Improving Basic Programs Operated by Local Education Agencies (LEAs)
State Assessment Grants
Education of Migrant Children
Prevention & Intervention Programs for Children and Youth Who are Neglected, Delinquent, or At-Risk
Welcome parents! Title I, Part A Parent and Family Engagement affords parents meaningful opportunities to participate in their children's education. Title I resources support activities of the district’s Family and Community Engagement Department (FACE) in building capacity for effective parental involvement, which includes training parents on how to work with their children to improve academically and training to improve their own literacy and parenting skills. For additional information, contact External Funding (713-556-6928 or email Ext.Funding@HoustonISD.org) or the FACE department (FACE@HoustonISD.org).
A school-parent compact is a written agreement between parents, the school, and students that outlines a shared responsibility for supporting a child's academic success. It details specific roles and actions for each party, such as parents providing a quiet place to study and schools ensuring two-way communication, with the goal of helping students meet high academic standards.
A campus improvement plan (CIP) is a strategic blueprint that outlines how a school will improve student achievement and address its specific needs. It is developed with input from stakeholders like teachers, parents, and administrators to set goals, identify resources, and monitor progress, often focusing on areas identified through a comprehensive needs assessment. The plan is a one-year operational document detailing how time and resources will be allocated to meet objectives, ensuring a unified vision for improvement.
